Inter Services Public Relation Directorate (ISPR) was established in 1972 by the order of the President, the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh. The institution was tasked to serve the needs of the Armed Forces and other Defence Organizations in matters relating to information publicity, public and press liasion.

With very meagre manpower and resource this organization started its office in a small portion of Old Highcourt Building adjacent to the Ministry of Defence (MOD). Mr. Zahid Hossain was appointed as the 1st Director of ISPR. At that time, the Directorate had 37 manpower including 08 officers.

As the work arena increased, this institution also reorganized its strength to 56 including 14 officers. Thereafter, with the order of Chief Martial Law Administrator’s (CMLA) Office the manpower of this institution again reduced to 33 including six 1stclass and four  2nd class officer.

In 1993, along with the MOD, ISPR Directorate was relocated to Ganabhaban Complex, Sher-E-Bangla Nagar from Old High Court Building. After two consequlive relocation as such, this institution temporarily stationed at the Old Headquarters Logistic Area, Dhaka Cantonment  i.e., the present location. Since then, ISPR directorate has been performing all sorts of media coordination and public relation activities of Armed Forces and other related organization of MOD with utmost sincerity and devotion.
