Dhaka, June 30:- Bangladesh Air Force organised a programme to hand over UN honorary medal ‘DAG HAMMARSKJOLD MEDAL’ and cheque of ‘Financial Assistance’ from UN headquarters to the families of two Air Force personnel who died while serving in UN peacekeeping mission at Eagle Hall, Bangladesh Air Force base Bashar on 30-06-2022. Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan, BBP, BUP, nswc, fawc, psc handed over the honorary medal and cheque of financial assistance as the chief guest. Bangladesh Air Force actively participated in the UN peacekeeping missions for the implementation of the commitment of Bangladesh to establish world peace under the direction of Hon’ble Prime Minister. A total of 09 members of the Bangladesh Air Force sacrificed their lives in the mission area during the deployment in UN peacekeeping missions. In the year 2020, a total of 129 martyred peacekeepers from 44 countries including 04 peacekeepers from Bangladesh Air Force were awarded Dag Hammarskjold Medal by United Nations. Families of 02 BAF martyred peacekeepers among those 04, were handed over the Medal of Honour and cheque of financial assistance in this programme. In his speech Chief of Air Staff highlighted the contributions of BAF in UN Peacekeeping and conveyed his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved families. Principal Staff Officers of Air Headquarters, Air Officer Commanding of Dhaka area, Directors of Air Headquarters, senior officers and selected Airmen were present at the ceremony.
