MIST and BEPRC jointly Organize Symposium on Sustainable Technologies for  Bangladesh’s Clean Energy Transition

Dhaka, 18 February 2026: Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), in collaboration with the Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (BEPRC), organized a symposium titled tuesday (17-2-2026) "Sustainable Technologies for Bangladesh's Clean Energy Transition." The event brought together policymakers, academics, industry leaders, and students to explore innovative pathways toward a sustainable and secure energy future.
 The program was graced by Mr. Mohammad Wahid Hossain, nde, Chairman (Senior Secretary), BEPRC, as the Chief Guest. Major General Md Nasim Parvez, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc, Commandant, MIST, attended as the Chief Patron, while Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam, Member (Additional Secretary), BEPRC, was present as the Special Guest.

In his opening remarks, Head of the EECE Department, Brigadier General KM Mustafizur Rahman, psc, highlighted the importance of such knowledge-sharing initiatives and shed light on MIST’s ongoing research and innovative activities in renewable and sustainable energy technologies. The Special Guest outlined various strategic initiatives and policy measures undertaken by the government to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and promote clean energy, emphasizing the need for diversification of energy sources, greater adoption of renewables, and development of skilled human resources. The Chief Patron underscored energy security as essential for the country’s long-term and sustainable development, noting that steady economic growth cannot be achieved without ensuring uninterrupted and reliable energy supply. The Chief Guest presented a forward-looking vision for expanding renewable energy and stressed the importance of coordinated and effective collaboration among academia, industry, and government agencies, while calling for the practical implementation of research-driven knowledge to accelerate the nation’s clean energy transition.

The technical session featured five distinguished speakers who delivered comprehensive presentations on emerging technologies and research opportunities in the power and energy sector. Dr. Hasan Mahmud from BEPRC highlighted government-supported research priorities and funding opportunities in the power sector; Brigadier General AKM Khabirul Islam, PhD, discussed the strategic role of green hydrogen in meeting future energy demands and decarbonizing key sectors; Ashiq Mahmud from Longi Solar presented recent advancements and global trends in high-efficiency solar cell technologies; Major Shah Mohazzem Hossain, PhD, Sigs addressed grid-inverter interaction challenges and the need for advanced control and protection strategies for stable grid integration of renewables; and Md. Jahangir Al Jilani of Reverie Power & Automation Engineering analyzed evolving energy market dynamics and emphasized stronger industry-academia collaboration for research-driven innovation.

The symposium witnessed the enthusiastic participation of more than 200 undergraduate and postgraduate students from the EECE Department, along with faculty members. The event reaffirmed the shared commitment of MIST and BEPRC to advancing research excellence, technological innovation, and collaborative partnerships in support of Bangladesh’s clean energy transition.
