BANGLADESH AIR FORCE IN DISASTER MANAGEMENT AFTER AMPHAN

Dhaka, May 22: Bangladesh Air Force has been providing emergency air transport and medical evacuation assistance to the Civil Administration in dealing with any National disaster in aid to Civil Power. In line with this, by the direction of Chief of Air Staff of Bangladesh Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat, BBP, OSP, ndu, psc, as a part of  emergency air transport facility of BAF, the State Minister Dr. M. Enamur Rahman, MP, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces Division and media personnel visited the Amphan affected Shatkhira, Potuakhali and Vashanchar areas to assess the damage by 01 x MI-17SH helicopter and 01 Augusta-139 helicopter on Friday 22-05-20. The inspection was carried out to monitor the overall situation in Satkhira, Patuakhali and Vashanchar areas. During the inspection, the media personnel took photos and videos of the affected area through which the real picture of the affected area was revealed. The inspection report of the media personnel is expected to play a important role in the subsequent disaster management of Amphan for the concern authorities.

In continuation of medical emergency support of BAF, 119 members of Bangladesh Air Force who have been deployed in Satkhira to assist the civil administration in post-Amphan disaster management, provided medical services to the people of Amphan affected area of South Alipur, ​​Satkhira today. In addition, they removed fallen trees on roads and houses to facilitate road movement and assist in house repairs. Besides, necessary equipments including water treatment plants, generators, water containers, electric motor pumps to supply clean water for the people of cyclone Amphan affected areas, have been sent to Shatkhira on behalf of Bangladesh Air Force.

In addition to the post-Amphan disaster management, on the occasion of Birth Centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, daily necessities and Eid gifts were distributed among the orphans under the arrangement of Bangladesh BAF Radar Unit, Moulvibazar and BAF Station Shamshernagar with suitable packets in the situation arising due to the coronavirus.

It may be mentioned that Bangladesh Air Force has kept prepared 06 transport aircraft and 29 helicopters for disaster management after Cyclone Amphan. In addition, Disaster Management Cell at BAF Base Bashar and Ops rooms at all BAF Bases of the Bangladesh Air Force have been Kept open to provide necessary assistance 24 hours a day for post-disaster management. Bangladesh Air Force has always been providing assistance professionally in dealing with any kind of National disaster.
