Dhaka, 09 October 2025: Five days long international training on “Chemical Incident Preparedness for Hospitals (HOSPREP)”, organized jointly by Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and Bangladesh National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention (BNACWC) has come to an end on Thursday (09-10-2025) at Golden Tulip the Grandmark Dhaka. S M Kamrul Hassan, BSP, ndc, hdmc, psc, PhD was present as the chief guest. A total of 18 participants both national and international and 6 instructors from OPCW and Bangladesh, other senior dignitaries from home and abroad were also present at the ceremony.
The Aim of the training was to initiate the nationwide comprehensive capacity building effort in hospitals for dealing with chemical victims. The training focused on hospital emergency planning, chemical victim decontamination procedures and clinical management as well as on the prevention of secondary contamination of medical personnel. Related subject matter experts from home and abroad including instructors from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and Specialist Physicians from different Medical Institutions of Bangladesh were involved in conducting the training.
At the closing ceremony, the chief guest handed over the certificates to the participants and the resource persons. In his closing remarks, the chief guest expressed his confidence that the knowledge gained through this training would be immensely beneficial for the participants to effectively deal with victims of chemical incident/accident in hospitals. He also reiterated on the importance of the capacity building of the hospitals to prepare for such challenges in case of chemical disasters. He assured the full cooperation and support of Bangladesh for OPCW on efforts related to chemical weapon convention. He also conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the OPCW for choosing Bangladesh for this important event.
