Dhaka, 12 September :- Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering of Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Mirpur Cantonment organized a seminar on Thursday (12-9-2019) to highlight the present status of Bangladesh’s nuclear energy status and development of skilled manpower.
Architect Yeafesh Osman,hon’ble Minister of Science and Technology, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh delivered the valuable speech as the Chief Guest of the seminar. In his address, the chief guest highlighted the present government’s strategic plans for the development of nuclear power in the country. Implementation of these plans of the government require the creation of skilled nuclear engineers. For this purpose, he emphasized on organizing regular seminars, workshops and training courses. Nuclear Science and Engineering Department of MISTwas praised for organizing such a seminar.
Mr. Abul Kalam Azad, Chief Coordinator of SDG Affairs, was also present as special guest. In his speech, he highlighted the proper and visionary leadership of hon’ble Prime Minister in the development of the country’s nuclear power.
Commandant of MIST, Major General Md. Wahid-Uz-Zaman, ndc, awc, psc, te presided over the seminar. In his speech, he highlighted the contribution of Nuclear Science and Engineering Department in developing nuclear engineers in the country. At the seminar, Dr. Mohammad Shawkat Akbar, Project Director, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project was present as the keynote speaker who delivered speech on, “Status of National Nuclear Power Program”. Also another keynote speaker , Brigadier General Akhtar Shahid, Chief Coordinator, NSPC, spoke on , “Nuclear Security & Physical Protection System of NPP in Bangladesh”. Mr. Sheikh Shahadat Hossain distinguished Nuclear Engineer of the National Research Council of Canada, delivered his speech as keynote speaker on, “Nuclear Safety and Waste Management System of NPP in Bangladesh”. Former Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Engineer M Ali Zulquarnain, moderated the question & answer session at the seminar. Moderator briefed the house about the creation of job facilities in government and non-government organizations, plan for training to develop skilled manpower, safety and security aspects of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant etc.
Colonel Md. Rosaidul Mawla, psc, Head of the Department, delivered the introductory speech at the ceremony. In addition, all the Deans, Heads of all other Departments, all faculties, officers and students, senior military and civilian officials of various institutions and organizations and other invited guests were present.
