Dhaka:30 october: As a part of the Disaster Response Exercise and Exchange ( DREE) a field training exercise ( FTX ) was conducted on Wednesday ( 30 October 2019) at Bashundhara Residential Area, Dhaka under the overall arrangement of 14 Independent Engineer Brigade. Mr MdTajul Islam, MP, Honourable Minister, Ministry of Local Government Division witnessed the FTX as Chief guest. He also spoke on the occsion. Meanwhile, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman, MP were present as special guest.
In this FTX, all stake holders related to post disaster management took part. This year the FTX was formed based on a post-earthquake scenario where total 680 personnel of 55 Government / Non-government organizations, agencies, NGOs, INGOs,volunteers took active participation. The aim of this FTX was to validate the operational plan of post-earthquake management. Commander, 14 Independent Engineer Brigade, Brigadier General A K M rezaulMazid, afwc, psc was the chief coordinator of this FTX. After FTX he briefed the media personnel.
To deal with the post disaster situation, and to manage the situation effectively 15 DIMT ( Disaster Incident Mangement Team ) cells were established this year. During this exercise, the functions of the cells and their mode of conducts were displayed with the developed scenario. The uniqueness of this year’s exercise was inclusion of two new cells. These are: Disable Rescue Cell and Multinational Coordination Cell. The requirement and feasibilities of these two newly inducted cells with their specialized manpower were verified through this field training exercise.
In the process of the exercise, due to the shortage of skilled manpower, the reality of operating more than one cells with one representative was identified. The necessity of circulating the important numbers of different organizations within a community, so that in case of emergency mass people can inform them quickly was felt strongly.
DREE was organized earlier in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 under the combined initiative of the Ministry of Disaster management and Relief, Armed Forces Division and United States Army Pacific (USAP). Following the success of the previous exercises, DREE-2019 was organized from 27th October 2019, which will continue up to 31 October 2019.
